Yair Garbuz

Yair Garbuz (b. 1945, Israel) is a painter, teacher and writer. Since the 1970s his work has been characterized by its combination of Pop art, the combination of various painterly styles, and humorous texts with stinging double innuendoes. His works, particularly those associated with the “want of matter” in Israeli art, are collages and hybrids that merge poetical self-reflection with bold social and political criticism. Garbuz is the recipient of the 2004 Emet Prize for Art, Science and Culture, and was the long standing director of the Art College Beit Berl.
