Doug Aitken

Doug Aitken (b. 1969, United States) is a multimedia artist living and working in LA. Aitken is renowned for his ground-breaking video art, installations and performances, in which he forms unusual connections between moving images, sounds, and locations. These seem to transport viewers into a world where time, place and memory have become fluid. Aitken has been making what he calls “text sculptures” – letter shaped light boxes which form words, with images relating to them. Aitken has shown his work in solo exhibitions in numerous leading art spaces worldwide, including the Barbican Centre in London. He was one of participants in the Station to Station project, in which artists were invited to take train rides across the United States and create a site specific work in the trains themselves.
