Matan Mittwoch

Matan Mittwoch (b. 1982, Israel) is a photographer whose work examines photographic processes and photography production in the digital era. His work questions the nature of image reproduction, the transition of images from light particles into ink, and the transformation of photographic data during printing processes, over which the artist has little control. Mittwoch seeks ways to “unmask” the photograph and reveal its complexity in light of the medium’s current saturation, by bringing the visibility and imaging of the technical operation to the surface of the image. Mittwoch is a graduate of Minshar School of Art, and the recipient of the 2012 Igal Ahouvi Prize and Israel Museum’s Gerard Levy Prize.
