Abraham Cruzvillegas

Abraham Cruzvillegas

Abraham Cruzvillegas (b. 1968, Mexico) is a conceptual artist who lives and works in his hometown of Mexico City. Working under the notion of autoconstrucción – self-construction, Cruzvillegas derives his sources from the building methods and improvisations used by the parent generation of his childhood neighborhood. Cruzvillegas broadens his investigations with each project whilst constantly testing the aesthetic paradoxes embodied in autoconstrucción, as well as in improvisation, change, and the erosion of the materials that form his works. Cruzvillegas has shown his work in leading art spaces and exhibitions worldwide, including Tate Modern, Haus der Kunst, Munich; dOCUMENTA (13), Istanbul Biennial, Centre for Contemporary Art, Glasgow; New Museum, Venice Biennial, and the Bienal de Säo Paulo.
